Vision boards have become a trend recently. The idea of creating a visual to keep you on track isn’t new at all, but, recently, more and more people are having, going to, or hearing about vision board parties. I’ve created vision boards before, but, honestly, I didn’t really take “vision boarding” that seriously. It was more of an arts and crafts opportunity. I don’t think I really accomplished much of what I wanted to in 2016 — not necessarily because I didn’t try, but because I didn’t take the goal setting process seriously. I was doing all of this “work”, and coming up with all of these ideas, but I had no end game (Scandal reference lol). I didn’t have a plan for what I was working toward; just random ideas. Some of that comes from being creative. My mind is constantly going and I come up with all of these ideas, but all these ideas don’t really do any good without some structure.
This year, I decided to really sit down and think about the goals I want to set for myself. Some of the goals I’ve set are very specific, some are not. Overall, I just sat and started thinking about the person I want to be in 2017 — not just what I want to do or what I want to have. Who do I want to be in and at the end of this year? With that in mind, what goals can I set to accomplish that an get me closer to where and who I want to be?

This year, I made it a point to set real goals for myself because one of the worst feelings in life is letting yourself down. I made a digital vision board just because that’s my thing, but if a physical vision board works better for you, get to it. If making a list and posting it on your wall will keep you more focused, go for it. Mine is my screensaver on my laptop because I use my laptop all day, everyday. This way, everyday, when I open my laptop, I’m reminded that I owe myself something. I owe it to myself to be the best I can be and make my best efforts to do accomplish my goals.
What are some of your goals for 2017? If you haven’t set any, start now.
XO,
Sydney Robinson
