Addicted to Thrifting, Again

Hey guys! It’s been a while, so I thought I’d fill you in.

A couple weeks ago, I was having a wardrobe crisis. I had an event coming up and I thought I’d ordered the perfect outfit, but, once it got here, my dreams were crushed. I’m sure many of you can relate. With this event a couple days away, there was no time to wait for another outfit to come. I tried going to the mall and had no luck and I definitely didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I already had my heart set on wearing the thigh high boots I’d ordered so I needed a specific type of outfit. I decided to try to find an oversized jacket to wear as a dress. I don’t know why because I don’t really dress like that, but I was scrolling through Rihanna’s and Karrueche’s Instagram and I was feeling inspired (I guess lol). Is My Natural Hair “Appropriate” in the Workplace?

Recently, as I was preparing for a scheduled video interview, I started freaking out. Wash day was 3 days ago and I don’t have the time to go through the process of straightening my hair. I’m wearing my 3-day-old wash and go, which means my fro is huge and, if I put any more product in my hair, the build up is not going to be cute. That also means a braid-out is a no. So, now I’m thinking to myself: “Is my fro appropriate for an interview?” Continue reading “Is My Natural Hair “Appropriate” in the Workplace?”

Last Minute Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas

It’s Valentine’s Day weekend. Valentine’s Day is 4 days away. No matter what the occasion is, I somehow end up doing all of my shopping at the last minute. Then, when you’re down to the wire, you can’t think straight. All of the cute outfit ideas you had go out the window and you’re online searching or running around the mall, looking crazy.

Whether you’re going out with your significant other or having a girls night, you want to look your best and, just because it’s a little late in the game, it doesn’t mean you can’t slay. Here are some outfits from common stores that won’t break your pockets. At the very least, here’s some inspiration to help you while you’re frantically running around the mall. Continue reading “Last Minute Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas”

Get on Board

Vision boards have become a trend recently. The idea of creating a visual to keep you on track isn’t new at all, but, recently, more and more people are having, going to, or hearing about vision board parties. I’ve created vision boards before, but, honestly,  I didn’t really take “vision boarding” that seriously. It was more of an arts and crafts opportunity. I don’t think I really accomplished much of what I wanted to in 2016 — not necessarily because I didn’t try, but because I didn’t take the goal setting process seriously. I was doing all of this “work”, and coming up with all of these ideas, but I had no end game (Scandal reference lol). I didn’t have a plan for what I was working toward; just random ideas. Some of that comes from being creative. My mind is constantly going and I come up with all of these ideas, but all these ideas don’t really do any good without some structure.  Continue reading “Get on Board”

2017: It’s Okay, You Can Start Over Tomorrow.

Okay, is it just me or has 2017 felt the same as 2016? A few weeks ago, as I counted down the last 10 seconds of 2016, I was so excited about 2017. Then, January 1st went by and, before I knew it, I was two weeks into 2017 and it was looking like: “New year, same me”. I have no idea how I let two weeks of the new year get away from me. I had no motivation to do anything. My attitude for 2017 has been so nonchalant, uncaring, unbothered, removed, and any other word you can think of to say “I just did not care”. I don’t know if it was the weather, being overwhelmed from trying to get my life together, or anxiety about the upcoming semester, but I was just not for 2017, at all.

Is Social Media Igniting Insecurity?

It’s 2016 and social media is everything! Okay, “everything” is a bit dramatic, but social media is a large part of our world. Businesses, public figures, and everyday people, like you and myself, have social media accounts. Social Media literally lets us display edited versions of ourselves. There are definitely great benefits to these networks, however, if we’re not careful, these same networks can birth insecurities. BASICALLY, IT’S ALL ABOUT THE FUNDAMENTALS

School is in session. Summer has really come to an end and it’s time to get in work mode – for real this time. Maybe you’re a college student and school work is starting to pile up. Maybe you’re a grad student balancing new classes, internships, and a part-time job. You may be reading this and you’re just happy the weekend is here because your work week was dreadful after the long labor day weekend. In whichever category you fall, a new season is on its way and, if you’ve ever been there, you know it sucks when you start realizing you have no clothes in your wardrobe.

Confidently Curly

I don’t often touch on the topic of natural hair nor do I often share my own experiences with my natural hair. However, being a natural girl, I pay attention to all the hype on social media; bloggers, YouTubers, comments made by those in transition that have questions and concerns, and so on… With all of the “natural attention”, I started thinking about my journey and how I’ve grown, being natural. Though many think it is, I’ve learned that most of the transition isn’t magical. Successfully embracing and rocking your natural curls isn’t just about knowing the techniques or about the products. The first thing a natural girl has to master is being confident.
