Hey guys! What’s poppin’?!
As you may know, this is the last semester of my senior year of undergrad and, y’all, let me tell you something: YA GIRL IS TIREDDDD.
Throughout my college career, I’ve taken a few turns and had quite a few fumbles. As I reach the end of my undergrad career, I’m forcing myself to not reflect on the “should have-s” and learning how to make lemonade, even when life hands me limes (yes, I meant limes lol). The 90’s fashion vibe is back, with bright colors, oversized lapels, box braids, and natural beauty looks galore, and it’s creepin’ in with a little more TLC. Not only is this trend showing us some tender love and care, but it’s taking us back to the good ol’ days of the 90’s, reminding us of our favorite 90’s celebs.
Fashion in the 90’s was effortless and edgy. Designers of New York Fashion Week are taking this effortless edge and adding a dash of that 90’s fashion vibe to their collections. Stars made their way down the red carpet for the Emmys on Sunday. The carpet was filled with a lot of bold fashion choices. Some looks were great and some were, well, not so great.
Amongst all of the celebs that were there, Gabrielle Union and her husband, NBA player Dwyane Wade, made an appearance. According to Gabrielle’s Instagram, this was the couple’s first time being at the Emmy’s and, from the looks of it, she took it very seriously. Designer LaQuan Smith showcased his self-titled Spring/Summer 2018 collection during New York Fashion Week. The presentation was held in Beacon School, a college preparatory school in New York City. The perfect location for a collection inspired by school movies — those movies from the 90’s and early 2000s that we can’t get enough of.
If you’re a 90’s fan like I am, you’ll love this collection. From form fitting to oversized camo pieces, to revealing high slits, plaid and mesh, the pieces in this collection turn heads.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but Rihanna is killing it! Rihanna debuted the Fenty x Puma Spring/Summer 2018 collection at New York Fashion Week. As the creative director, Rihanna works with design director, Melissa Battifarano, to bring Fenty x Puma to life. The duo has done it again with the collection for this season!
This season’s Fenty x Puma collection was motocross inspired and has both women’s and men’s looks. The collection features men’s motocross looks that have been transformed into feminine streetwear — These looks were my favorite. The looks managed to keep oversized silhouettes while still accentuating the curves of the female body and adding a dose of sex appeal to the collection. From the moto style jackets to biker pants and high cut swim suits, the collection was power packed with amazing looks.

Oscar de la Renta is definitely looking different, but I’m loving it! Creative Directors Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia showcased their ready-to-wear spring/summer 2018 Oscar de la Renta collection during New York Fashion Week. This was the duo’s sophomore collection for the brand and they definitely did things a little differently. When the duo was brought back to Oscar de la Renta as creative directors, they were charged with the task of capturing a younger audience. This RTW S/S18 collection sure captured me!
The models entered and exited the runway on escalators. As the show opens, you see a crisp white button down with a pair of equality crisp white shorts coming down the escalator and then … color! The shirt is embellished with small pops of color and sequins. The designer duo was inspired by pop art and Oscar’s signature and hand written notes. Throughout the collection there are paint like splatters and handwritten notes and signatures used as motifs. Since this is the ready to wear line, the designers wanted to stay true to the house, but also stay relevant to the more casual style that is trending right now. The looks featured a blend of edge and elegance, which I love!

Melania Trump steps on to Air Force 1, headed to Texas. She is accompanying her husband, President Trump, to Texas to survey the damage and response to Hurricane Harvey.
